If you’re all signed up for your first CrossFit class, you might be wondering what to expect. Starting anything new can be intimidating. However, if you’re able to keep an open mind and show up ready to learn, then you’ll do great!
Here are a few more details on what you can expect at your first CrossFit class:
What to Bring
You don’t need a ton of gear to start CrossFit. All you need to bring to class is a water bottle.
What to Wear
When deciding what to wear, pick something you know you’ll be comfortable moving and sweating in. Avoid baggy and oversized t-shirts and shorts.
Nerves are Normal
If you’re feeling nervous, know that you’re not alone in feeling that way. Remind yourself why you’re trying CrossFit. Focus on feeling excited – think about having fun and learning something new.
Most CrossFit classes are structured similarly. You’ll go through a group warm-up. Then your coach will take you through some skill work and review the movements that you’ll be doing in the workout. The whole class will start the workout together, and then there will probably be some type of cool down and stretching afterward.
There is a lot to learn in CrossFit. You’ll challenge yourself with learning new movements, and you’ll probably be sore in quite a few new places. If you’re a little overwhelmed, this is common. Just remember that it takes time to learn, so be patient with yourself and your progress.
If you ask someone what keeps them coming back to CrossFit, they’ll probably say the people. Showing up for your first class, you’ll probably have several people come up to you and introduce themselves before the class even gets started. Surrounding yourself with a group of positive people who are interested in the same things as you are is pretty cool. Enjoy it!
